Children (Interceptive) treatments
Early Assessment of your child (7-10 years of age) allows our Orthodontists to evaluate your child’s existing and incoming teeth and determine whether or not early treatment might be necessary.
Typically the first adult molars and the front teeth are present in the mouth, giving our Orthodontists an opportunity to check for problems such as abnormal bites, crowding, deep bites, crossbites and open bites.
Although treatment usually will not begin until 0-5 years after the initial evaluation, it is still helpful in determining whether your child has any problems which may be easier to treat early. Earlier treatment may also be financially beneficial to correct a potential problem than delayed treatment. For some children, early treatment can prevent physical trauma to the protruding front teeth and reduce emotional distress if teasing is occurring. In addition, severely crowded teeth can prevent good oral hygiene.
Early orthodontic treatment aims to correct more serious problems as well as guide the jaw’s growth pattern. Early treatment may also help to make extra room in the mouth for the permanent teeth to be properly placed as they come in.
